What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel. These gels consist of stabilised, non-animal hyaluronic acid. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It is long-lasting but not permanent.

What is hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the human body and is central to regulating cell growth and renewal. HA has impact on a number of functions in the body such as lubricating movable parts such as muscles and joints and to maintain skin elasticity.

How long do the effects of a dermal filler treatment last?

One of the advantages of dermal filler treatments is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent. Duration depends on factors such as the area treated, your skin type, skin condition, lifestyle and age. Generally the effects can last between 6-12 months.

Which areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, create fuller lips and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and the chin, and they revitalise the skin.

The most common areas treated by fillers are:
Lips - Used to enhance the shape, definition and volume of lips.

Nasolabial folds - The lines between the nose and corner of the mouth.

Marionette lines - The lines from the corner of the mouth downwards.
